If you’re in the market for a new golf bag (are we all not always potentially looking for a new bag?) the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag might just be the perfect companion for your next round. Having tested this bag extensively at South Herefordshire Golf Club in August 2024, I can confidently say that it offers a great blend of style, functionality, and value. This review will share my experience with the bag, compare it to previous models I’ve used, and share insights from a golf shop pro.
Out of the Box: First Impressions of the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag
When I first received the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag from Golfbidder.co.uk, I was immediately struck by its sleek and modern design. The blue version that I tested is both eye-catching and sophisticated, making it a perfect fit for golfers who appreciate a bit of flair on the course.
Priced at £148.98, this bag represents excellent value for money, especially when compared to other top-tier golf bags from leading brands. When you think a Ping Hoofer or Callaway Chev bag will set you back nearly £200, the Titleist Players 4 is great value for money!
Lightweight and Easy to Carry
One of the standout features of the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag is its lightweight construction. Weighing in at just 1.7 kg, this bag is designed to be carried effortlessly across 18 holes. The premium double strap is well-padded and distributes weight evenly across your shoulders, making it incredibly comfortable to carry, even on a hot summer’s day. This is far lighter than my previous golf carry bag, the Ping Hoofer, a bag I have had a mixed relationship with, but more about that later on.
The high-grade aluminium legs are both sturdy and durable, providing excellent stability when the bag is standing. This was particularly useful on the undulating fairways of South Herefordshire Golf Club, where the bag remained upright and secure throughout my round.
A Well-Organised and Spacious Bag
The Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag offers a generous amount of storage space, with six pockets in total. The full-length apparel pocket is a real highlight, featuring curved zips that make access a breeze. I found this particularly useful for stashing my waterproof jacket and extra layers, which were easy to reach when the weather turned.
Another handy feature is the external, lined drink sleeve, which kept my water bottle cool and within easy reach throughout the round. The horseshoe-style tee pocket is also well-designed, allowing for quick and easy access to tees and other small accessories.
The umbrella holder is a nice and also likely to be an essential feature too. When you think that you are most likely to use your carry bag when the weather prevents golf players from using carts or buggies, there is a good chance that it will be raining. An umbrella holder is a must, and something that many lesser golf carry bags have.
Compared to my previous experience with the Ping Hoofer carry bag, the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag feels more spacious and better organised. While the Ping Hoofer had its merits, I was disappointed with its limited space and the fact that the zip toggles often came off too easily. The Titleist bag, on the other hand, feels like a step up in terms of both quality, strength and functionality.
Durability and Build Quality
Titleist has clearly invested in using high-quality materials for the Players 4 Stand Bag. The bag is constructed from premium polyester, which feels both durable and resistant to the wear and tear of regular use. The high-quality YKK zippers are another nice touch, gliding smoothly and giving the bag a premium feel.
The four-way top cuff with full-length dividers ensures that your clubs are well-organised and protected. This is particularly important if, like me, you prefer to keep your clubs in pristine condition.
The build quality is also what sets this bag apart from the previous Ping Hoofer that I owned. The bolts at the top of the Ping Hoofer stand legs are notorious for coming off and making the stand element stop working. If you have a Google, you will see lots of people talking about this issue.
I tried to contact Ping to get a replacement bolt, but they didn’t even reply. The way that the Titleist Player 4 Stand Bag legs are attached are far more robust. in my opinion.
Pro Opinion: What the Golf Shop Pro Thinks
To get a more rounded perspective, I spoke with the resident golf shop pro at my local course about the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag. He was particularly impressed with the bag’s lightweight design and the comfort of the premium double strap.
“The Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag is a fantastic choice for any golfer who prefers to carry their bag. It’s light, comfortable, and has all the features you’d expect from a high-end bag,” he said. “The durability of the materials used, especially the aluminium legs and YKK zippers, ensures that this bag will stand the test of time. I also like how the bag remains stable on uneven ground, which is crucial when playing on hilly courses like ours.”
Conclusion: A Smart Investment for the Modern Golfer
Overall, the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag is an excellent investment for any golfer looking for a reliable, stylish, and functional carry bag. It’s clear that Titleist has put a lot of thought into the design and construction of this bag, and it shows in every detail.
Whether you’re walking 18 holes at South Herefordshire Golf Club or any other course, this bag offers the perfect combination of lightweight convenience and ample storage. At £148.98 from Golfbidder.co.uk, it also provides great value for money, especially when compared to other premium golf bags on the market.
For someone like me, who has recently switched from Ping to Titleist, the Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag has been a pleasant surprise. It’s a step up in terms of quality and usability, and I’m looking forward to many more rounds with it by my side.
